Last night at the gala ceremony for the sixth Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois 2008, Quebec’s major consulting-engineering awards, Dessau won three awards (Léonards). The ceremony took place at the Montreal Science Centre.

Implementation of 21 small electrical systems and two 60 kV transmission lines and substations, Ministry of Energy and Mines


This project consists in the implementation of high voltage networks in 656 remote villages in order to distribute power to 400 000 inhabitants.  This project, financed through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), otherwise known as Japan’s "Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund", aimed at distributing electricity throughout the entire country.

 

The project included the construction of 120 km of 60 kV transmission lines, addition of a 138 kV substation (Cachimayo), construction of a 220 kV substation (Carhuaquero) and 60 kV substations, as well as 21 small satellite electric networks providing service to neighbouring areas.

 

Dessau was responsible for reviewing and approving engineering and control work and supply administration as well as supervising work done by local contractors.  
 

Services provided

  • Supervision of detailed engineering and electro-mechanical and civil works

  • Supervision of procurement process including tender documents, analysis and recommendations as well as contract negotiation

  • Supervision of detailed engineering

  • Supervision of fabrication

  • Supervision of construction work

  • Supervision of network testing/commissioning and implementation

Unique aspects of the project

  • The project consisted in 2 850 km of 22.9 kV distribution lines; 120 km of 60 kV transmission lines; six 60/22.9 kV substations and one 138/60 kV substation, for a total of 70 MVA.
