Slab presses, Tembec Chetwynd

This optimization project's objective was to increase the productivity of two slab presses by modifying their control logic in order to compress the pulp more rapidly.

One of Dessau's automation engineers, with solid experience in Siemens S5 PLC programming, worked jointly with Tembec's maintenance and operations personnel, as well as with the manufacturer's representatives.

Services provided

  • Adjustment of timer device and pressure settings

  • Adjustment of position switches

  • Logics modification to reduce pulp’s slab cycle

  • Implementation of test bed

  • Training of maintenance personnel on Siemens S5 PLC

Unique aspect of this project

The above mentioned activities made it possible to reduce the execution cycle by approximately 8 to 10 seconds, depending on the operation mode and type of pulp, therefore increasing slab productivity of about 8 to 10%.
